Molise is a really interesting geographical, which extends from the sea to heights of Matese and Mainarde, in an intermediate position between the center and south of Italy. The region presents itself as a genuine laboratory in the heritage of customs and traditions but also the great variety of gold-hydrogeological factors, climate and flora and fauna. A region with common blocks, increasingly anemic population, but more and more attractive because the guardians of traditional values, the mysterious beauty. A story, that of common Molise, marked by bitter separations in the past centuries, but also by past glories. Perched on the heights, they dominate the valleys in a strategic position, the same chosen by the ancient fathers, the Samnites, to relax at the foot of the castle or mansion, with steep streets and staircases that climb in a maze of narrow streets with houses close together, almost to protect themselves, with open spaces and views that open suddenly in the valleys.

Weekend in the Alto Molise

The tour takes place in the highlands of the Molise region, in direct contact with nature and the landscape of this extraordinary region, also rich in history and traditions. The forest M.A.B. Montedimezzo, in the municipality of Vastogirardi, the Garden of the Flora of Capracotta Apennines - the charming scenery of this area - are the jewels of this area that presents itself as a unique nature reserve, which is characterized by mountains from the original form, by magnificent forests beech, oak and fir, with long grassy paths, itratturi, which were once used to transport the cattle on the plains of Apulia.

This practice, known as transhumance, repeated twice a year, goes back to the Samnites, the ancient people who lived there originally. Traces of this ancient and glorious people are found in many polygonal boundary walls that surround the mountain peaks, but also and especially in the magnificent sanctuary of Pietrabbondante with attached greek theater. The route then continues in the "learned" Agnone, a town of art that have earned the orange flag of the Touring Club as an excellent tourist city. Bells, copper but also confectionery products are the peculiarities of this pretty town, lying on a tuff spur overlooking the river valley Verrino, also identified by the characteristic shape of the bell towers of many churches in the city's urban fabric. A "full immersion" in the very heart of the nature of the ancient Samnium, among enchanting landscapes and wilderness in their unbridled beauty.
